About Busuyi Agbetunsin
Born and raised in Nigeria, Busuyi Agbetunsin is a leading biostatistician and a key stakeholder in the clinical research industry, who had a keen interest in numbers at an early age. While most of his counterparts struggled with math, he got it for what it was—a language.
Lucky for him, that is one thing the world never lacks a translator for. He packed his skills and put them to work for him.
But he was not done. In 2014, Busuyi made the daring move to the United States, determined to advance his knowledge further. Within just two years, in 2016, he earned his Master’s in Biostatistics from Grand Valley State University in Michigan, clearing the path to a life where numbers would indeed change more lives.
A Career Built on Precision and Purpose
Equipped with his educational success, Busuyi entered the Biopharma and Clinical Research industry. It wasn’t long before his skills, especially in statistical analysis, began to gain attention. Since 2016, he has been a top Biostatistician, leading the way in decoding high-level clinical data—studies that work to develop medical treatments and cures.
Today, he is a Principal Biostatistician at Syneos Health, where he untangles the secrets of life-saving medications from clinical trial data so that promising treatments are effective and safe for humans to use.
Beyond Medicine: Research That Bridges Industries
Medical research and clinical trials may take up most of Busuyi’s waking hours, but his curiosity is not confined to the medical field. He is also curious about understanding human behavior and decision-making, which led to him being a co-author of a research paper in the International Journal of Event and Festival Management.
In the paper “How do we keep them coming back? An examination of individual factors influencing attendee satisfaction and intention to return to festivals,” he explored what draws people back to events and how event managers can facilitate that.
His ability to apply statistical analysis across diverse fields demonstrates that data is not just numbers; it’s a story. From advancing clinical research to finding out what makes the perfect festival experience, his work has helped numerous businesses and researchers alike make informed, impactful decisions.
A Life Filled with Family, Music, and Community
Outside of work, Busuyi’s life is filled with love, laughter, and meaningful relationships. He married his wife in 2016, and they’ve built a beautiful life together, raising their child with values of kindness, spirituality, and curiosity. Family is always at the forefront of everything that he does, and he makes time to be present despite a busy schedule.
Apart from family, music plays a significant role in his life. He is a drummer and the lead usher at his church, where he creates a warm and uplifting atmosphere for the worshippers. Drumming is not just a pastime for him—it’s a way of reaching out to his spirituality and his community.
During his leisure time, and when he’s not gazing at data or playing music, Busuyi enjoys bowling, playing pickleball, and spending time with family and friends. These activities provide a much-needed balance, allowing him to unwind and recharge while engaging in things that bring him joy.
Giving Back: A Heart for Service
Busuyi understands that success isn’t solely based on what you achieve professionally but on what you give back. Outside of volunteering at his church and supporting Compassion International, an organization geared towards helping children around the world, Busuyi’s philanthropic endeavors are never for show. He believes in giving, whether in time or resources, to make a difference in other people’s lives.
Honoring Milestones, Embracing Growth
Professionally and personally, Busuyi has had milestones. In January 2024, he marked his fifth anniversary at Syneos Health, five years of investing in biostatistics and research. Then, on March 21, 2024, Busuyi and his wife celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary.
Busuyi hasn’t aggressively sought awards, but his imprint in the clinical research industry is undeniable. A career spent improving clinical research, data analysis, and giving back to the community is proof that when one aligns their passion with purpose, great things happen.
The Road Ahead: A Journey of Continuous Learning
For Busuyi, learning never stops. He believes that one’s growth should be a continuous process. Hence, he consistently invests in building his capacity as a biostatistician, learning new statistical methods, and keeping abreast with industry trends. This has ensured he remains relevant and at the cutting edge of opportunities, which makes him do what he does better.
Looking ahead, Busuyi will continue to hope to make a difference, not only in his career but also in the different spheres of his life. Through mentorship to early career professionals, research contributions, and being there for family and the community, he believes that the journey is only starting.
Busuyi’s story attests to the fact that perseverance does pay off, and indeed, “it is not how one starts; it is about how well and impactful you end.” From Nigeria to America, from a Statistics student to biostatistician, from researcher to community leader—Busuyi Agbetunsin’s story inspires and proves that it can only get better with determination and focus.
